Introduction

The indigenous forests, fynbos, lakes, rivers and mountains, combined with a  moderate climate, make Knysna a natural Eden for flora and fauna lovers alike.

Knysna is also home to the only forest elephant in South Africa.

  • The unique Knysna seahorse and Pansy shells grace the Knysna lagoon. Humpback and Southern Right whales frolick along these coastal waters from May to December, whilst dolphins are year-round residents. 

  • The indigenous forests forms the largest  closed-canopy forest in southern Africa.  The colourful Knysna Loerie and Narina Trogon delight bird watching enthusiasts in the forests.

  • The remarkable richness of In the areas around it, Fynbos vegetation  contributes 8000 plant species to the Cape floral kingdom.
